Apparently, writing the book was the easy part.

With all of my editing, formatting, and long nights over, trying to find a way to get my book out there is proving to be the greater challenge. If I’ve learned anything from this last year, two things stick out: my wife is always right, and hard work will, with time, pay off.

After fourteen months from the book’s conception to completion, I’ve finally sent query letters to five different publishers. It was a weird mixture of feelings. I felt happy for finishing the book and starting the next phase. I felt half-disgusted at the idea that my work was nowhere good enough to require a professional to read it. The self-doubt remains but the support I have at home makes up for it.

Now, I wait. I wait for the first rejection, then the second, and so on. I know it’s a part of the process and I’m excited. I am. But for so long now I’ve had something to do and at this point in time it’s out of my hands, but only for a little bit. I’m sure the work has just begun.

  1. Yep. We are paddling the same boat. I am sending out some more today. Did you send a synopsis? We didn’t practice that.

Well, as the wife it’s nice to know that you admit I’m right in the written word even if you don’t express it through the spoken word. It will take time, and it will be so worth it and until then book number 2……..

I’m very proud of you son! I remember writing query letters for a magazine article. I felt very vulnerable. It was so exciting to get each response and then not so exciting. My teacher says its all part of the process. I just heard about someone I know who just got picked up by Thomas Nelson after a lot of hard work. It’s exciting. I’m looking forward to seeing your books in print! As my writing teacher tells me so I tell you! Love you!
